On March 11, the coastal towns of Japan were devastated after being ravaged by a rattling 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunamt. Approximately 12,000 people have been confirmed dead with tens of thousands of others declared missing. The nation is currently struggling to handle a potential nuclear disaster triggered by the tsunami. Organizers of the June 25 event hope to generate millions for the Japanese Red Cross, which is providing aid to survivors of last month’s devastating natural disasters, which ravaged the country’s east coast.
Lady Gaga is one of the celebrities who has raised her voice in support of Japan in the wake of the tragedy. The much-lauded and multi-awarded Grammy winner contributed a song for the charity album Songs for Japan and later donated $1.5 million towards the relief efforts in the country. Gaga even raised an additional $1 million for the relief effort after designing and selling prayer wristbands honoring the country, which were quickly snapped up by Little Monsters, who paid about $5 for the item.
