Her unconventional lifestyle often makes tabloid headlines and now The King’s Speech star Helena Bonham Carter is set to play one of literature’s most eccentric characters, Miss Havisham, in an adaptation of the classic novel ‘Great Expectations’.
The British actress is in talks to join director Mike Newell’s new big screen adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel where she’d play the wealthy spinster who never takes off her wedding dress, reported Variety online.
Upcoming star Jeremy Irvine is in negotiations to play the protagonist Pip.
This would be yet another English period piece for the 45-year-old actress.
Early in 2010, she played the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland and in 2007 she played Mrs Lovett in ‘Sweeney Todd’.
She also dons inventive costumes as Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series.
Carter lives with her long-time partner, filmmaker Tim Burton in London and has two children with him.
The family does not share a home, instead they live in three adjoining homes with connecting corridors.
